Whidbey Designworks
Greetings to our current and prospective clients. We have created this blog as an adjunct to our highly dated website, which you can view here. We will use this forum to post photos of current completed and ongoing work. In addition we will highlight personal projects as well as work and theory that informs our general design sense.
Bio’s:
Whidbey Designworks founder, Rob Toombs, has the complete range of woodworking skills, abilities, and experience. WDW provides quality at competitive prices, adding superior quality shop drawings and excellent knowledge of construction detail. Rob gets involved as early as possible in each project ensuring the establishment of good communication among all principles. Prior to moving to the Seattle area, he lived in Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked as an architect for Hefley-Stevens, Architects (he is currently still registered as an architect in Ohio) for ten years before opening his first design/build cabinet firm in 1975. He was in business there for 15 years before selling his interests in order to move to the Northwest. He then worked for architect Reid Morgan for five years before starting Whidbey Designworks in 1994.
Nick Toombs joined the company in 2001, bringing with him significant woodworking skills. After graduating from the University of Washington, he worked in Cincinnati, Ohio for Contract Fixtures, Inc., a medium size cabinet shop specializing in restaurant and clerical woodworking. Upon returning to the Northwest, he worked for Rick Swanson in Seattle before joining his father at Whidbey Designworks. He brings unique design sensibilities as well as his carving skills to the company.
